Badshot Lea 2-1 Westfield

Badshot Lea 2-1 Westfield

Westfield FC2 Dec - 08:34

Harry Powell Report

It was a poor afternoon for the Field as they handed a struggling Badshot Lea side their first league win of the season.

The game was rather a scrappy affair, not helped by a pitch that had been battered by recent bad weather, but there were no excuses for a Field side that looked off the beat.

The Field had some good spells on the ball in the first 10 but, as has been a common theme recently, lacked that cutting edge they needed to put them ahead. The hosts, despite their league position, played well, attempting to catch the Field on the break and counter through their young and quick forwards.

It was one of those counters that led to the opener, as a late challenge saw the ‘Baggies’ win a free kick just outside the area, which was put in with great precision, meeting the free head of Finlay Evans, who fired home.

Admittedly, this goal was worst case scenario for the Field - and it showed. They struggled throughout most of the game, not fashioning much in the way of a reply, although a great header from skipper Luke Elliott nearly found the bottom corner but it was unfortunately stopped by a great from Baggies keeper Harry Cawdron.

The game looked to be done and over when Finlay Evans added a second to his account nine minutes from time, but there was still much more drama for this game to provide as Caleb Wright headed home from a cross in the 87th minute.

Sekou Toure almost levelled the scores just a couple minutes later, as his rose highest to a cross in the box, but his header was aimed straight at Cawdron, who managed to save the shot and keep the hosts on top and collect all three points.
